BAY 13 is an eclectic restaurant located in the popular Pearl District of downtown Portland, Oregon. BAY 13 is a part of the MOSAIC CONCEPTS, a branch of the MOANA Hotel & Restaurant group.
The Pearl District is "the" place to visit in Portland, complete with an abundance of unique and vibrant stores, shops, and much more. The area was originally knows for its industrial warehouses and rail yards. It has cobblestone streets, historic water towers, and old brick buildings. Now, the Pearl District features the most colorful and creative neighborhood one can imagine -- right in the very heart of a major city.
There is more than 100 city blocks of shopping, cultural activities, historic sites, residential abodes, and dining. BAY 13 of one of those 50 plus restaurants, cafes, bars, brewpubs, and coffeehouses that occupy space in the Pearl District.
BAY 13 is known for one of the many fine locations that offers modern seafood, sushi, an oyster bar, as well as other foods. Cocktails are unique, such as a Pomegranate Ginger Martini or a Pear Blueberry Cosmo. The Cosmo includes fresh blueberries, Pear Vodka, White Cranberry Juice, etc. It had a very pleasant taste and if you like vodka, provided a special taste difference. A Premium list of SAKE is also offered, such as the Daiginjo, Junmai Gingo, and Harushika. A wide variety of wines and champagne is offered, either by the glass or by the bottle. Each table is served complimentary filtered, chilled, sparkling & still water, "H2o13". This special water is supposedly filtered three times and it was definitely chilled, but not cold.
The sushi includes an extremely wide array including, Ahi Tuna, Dungeness Crab, Alaska Salmon, Florida White Shrimp, Norther California Eel, and Sesame Seaweed. I am not a fan of sushi, although my dinner companions said it was very good.
There are starters such as oysters, soups, salads, salmon cake, grilled flat bread, and more. The entrees feature fish, of course, such as scallops, Sockeye salmon, grilled swordfish, halibut, clams, mussels, cod, and almost anything else. Then, for those wanting other entrée choices, BAY 13 offers such items as PorkTenderloin, Braised Lamb, and Flat Iron Steak. I tried the Flat Iron Steak, which was cooked exactly the way I like my steaks -- slightly pink inside, but mostly well done. It was complimented with Red Wine Braised Shallots which were very tasty. One companion had the lamb and the other had a chicken dish. Neither had any special compliments or complaints.
The deserts are almost too much after such a terrific meal, but none of the choices are a mistake. Each dessert offers a unique flavor and palate-pleasing taste sensation. We shared a tiny portion of each of the desserts so we could try them out.
Prices range in the mid-twenty dollar range, but with extras and drinks, a dinner for two
BAY 13 is located at 701 Northwest 13th Avenue, downtown Portland. It's directly across from the 24 Hour Fitness center in an old, abandoned and run-down warehouse. It seats approximately 150 or so. There is a small private dining area and an outdoor area located on the old loading dock. The outdoor area would be ideal for a pre-dinner cocktail party.
